Not So Great

I can honestly say that I am horrible at sculpting! I look as the sculptures that other people have down, and I am utterly amazed by them. The picture above a sculpture of Queen Cleopatra that I made for a history project. I strongly dislike sculpting, because I just cant seem to get the hang of it.
Look at this! How in the world do people do it! It is so realistic and detailed. How do they get the clay to stay or form? I admire the sculptors who create pieces such as this.

Nostalgia

This is a self portrait that I painted in elementary school. Isn't fabulous? I guess the red hair gives it away that it is me.  I found it in my garage and thought it was so funny because it is quite horrific. I believe my art work has improved some since then. I remember my art classes from elementary school pretty vividly. I remember in fourth grade, my art teacher used one of my art pieces to show the class what not to do. I remember it hurt my feelings so badly, and I disliked the teacher because of it. I looked for the one she criticized, but it is long gone. I wish i could show her some of my paintings now.

Just for Fun

A couple weeks ago I was in a creative mood and really wanted to paint something. Since I lack the time to create a intricate picture I decided splattering paint on a canvas would suffice. So Susanna and I found some paint, place a canvas in the backyard and had some fun! I don't create paintings like this one often, but it was relaxing to do it because I wasn't stressing to make everything perfect.

Disney Drawings

One thing I have fun drawing is disney character. I did the princess painting(water color) in study hall at my high school because I got bored (which happened often). The days I did not have a lot of homework I would ask my teacher if I could. After she said it was alright, I would whip out my paints, brushes, water, paper towel, pallet and art book. Then I would find a desk or spot on the floor and paint away. When the painting was completed, I was pretty happy with the outcome.
This was done for a history project. The teacher wanted us to take a popular logo or franchise and create something to represent it. I decided to do Disney. After many hours it was finished. In all there are 12 Disney characters and the Disney logo. I also really liked this drawing.

This is the process I go through to complete the drawings: First I search for the perfect pictures online. Once I find one, I sit at the computer desk and draw each one by sight with a pencil(I did not trace any of these). Afterwards I go over the pencil lines with pen to help intensify to characters. For the princess painting I added watercolor after the pen.

The beginning

I started drawing at  young age. I was homeschooled up until 2nd grade, so my mother would always have little art projects for my older brother and I. We would everything from drawing fish to indians. We learned how to make our own paper and sow. From 3rd to 5th I went to a small private school called Veritas Classical Christian School. There I recieved my first formal training in the art department. My art teacher there taught me alot of things that really helped strengthen my skills for the future. After I left that school I did not any take art classes again until my junior year of highschool. For the most part I self taught my self how to draw. I did this by looking at other drawings or painting and recreating them, by looking at the shadowing and details. I even bought a book on how to draw horses and would sit in my room drawing the horses, barely skimming the instructions. One time we had a calendar featuring Thomas Kinkaid's artwork, so I went through it and drew all of my favorite paintings. Finally during my junior year artclasses became open to me at my highschool Richmond Christian School. I loved both teachers I had, although I feel as though the teacher I had during my junior year didn't challenge me. In those two years I was finally taught to paint, which I am so greatful for.

This painting and the one above are both Thomas KinKaid paintings. This painting is one of the ones that I tried to draw when I was younger. Both are beautiful, I love the lighting and detail they both have.

Back in highschool my art teacher always had interesting art projects for us. This is one of the first we did my senior year. The instructions were to first pick an orginal painting in one of the books she had. I chose The Magpie, painted by Claude Monet. Then we were to cut it out of the book and cut out three squares randomly throughout the painting. Next we were to glue the cut out squares on to a white canvas. Last we were to recreate the painting, matching the colors to the cut out squares so that they blended in with the painting, so much so that they were unable to be spotted. We also had to make it our own by removing specific features etc, I took out the barn, some trees and the color changed. This is actualy the second acrylic painting I had ever done, so it is definitly not as detailed and as well done as Monet's. It was probably the most difficult painting I have ever had to do because I had to make the squares invisible. Can you see them? Mine is at the top, Monet's is the second.

Another Art

There are alot of different types of art whether the painting kind, music, or writing. Another art that I enjoy is photography. I love capturing an image in a way that sometimes painting cant. It is easy and quick. There are so many angles and colors to capture. I have never had a awesome camera but i take what i can take. Not only is taking the picture fun, but so is editing. In a way its another kind of painting, the ability to change saturation or contrast adjust the depth, lightness, darkeness etc. I have a little sister, she is 13, and she is my little model. The other week we went to sunday park and took some pictures. The camera is not the greatest...but we had fun!
